Let us introduce you to our section – Buddy Program SLU :D
Who are we?
We are a student group at Silesian University in Opava (mostly active in the School of Business Administration in Karviná), dedicated to support international students through Buddy Program SLU. Our main goal is to make their stay in the Czech Republic as smooth, enjoyable, and enriching as possible — both academically and socially.
What do we do?
- We help incoming international students before and after their arrival.
- We assign a Czech buddy to each international student — this buddy becomes their first friend and guide.
- We organize social, cultural, and sports events throughout the semester — these events connect international and local students, promote intercultural understanding, and create lifelong friendships.
Coming to us for Erasmus?
Amazing! The first series of events that awaits you when you come to Karviná are Welcome Days . This is a special time before the start of the semester when we organise a series of events, presentations and fun activities to help you get to know the university, the city, and your fellow students. You’ll receive all the essential information to make your start in the Czech Republic smooth and stress-free.
But that’s just the beginning! Throughout the semester, we prepare a variety of events to make your Erasmus experience unforgettable. You can join us on trips around the Moravian-Silesian region , explore the nearby town of Polish Cieszyn , or discover hidden gems around Karviná and its surroundings. These trips are a great opportunity to experience local culture and enjoy some amazing views – and, of course, make new friends along the way.
We also host themed events and social gatherings where international and Czech students can connect, have fun, and learn from each other. Whether you’re into parties, cultural exchange, or volunteer work, there’s something for everyone.

How to get involved?
There are many ways to join our Buddy Program at SLU. Since our main goal is to support international students during their stay in Karviná, we are always looking for motivated buddies who can help newcomers settle in and feel at home. We also organise various events throughout the semester — from Welcome Days , International Night, and city trips to casual meetups and cultural nights. That’s where our active members step in and help bring these ideas to life.
Buddy
A Buddy is someone who takes care of international students both before and after their arrival . Usually you become friends. You show them around our wonderful town, hang out with them, help them with what they might need and answer some of their questions. There are no strict rules – just be open, helpful, and friendly
