History of ESN VSB-TU Ostrava
It all began back in 2010, when our current president returned from his Erasmus in Finland —disheartened by how few Czech students knew foreign languages. But instead of just complaining, he took action. That’s when he launched the FILLUP Programme: a weekly gathering every Wednesday at 6 PM, bringing together Czech and international students to practice English and share their cultures, traditions, and stories.
These sessions sparked something special. A group of six Erasmus-enthusiasts decided to take things further and founded an organisation to support foreign students even more. Despite being a small team, they pushed hard, and just two months after applying, they officially became a full member section of ESN.
Thanks to their passion and dedication, ESN VŠB-TUO quickly rose to become one of the leading sections in ESN CZ. We proudly organised the first national platform in English, won the award for the Best Responsible Party (Summer Semester 2012), and had the most diligent Section Delegate at the June 2012 platform. In January 2013, we were named Section in the Spotlight —a prestigious international recognition. Plus, four of our members have served on the national Board of ESN CZ.
Today, ESN VŠB-TUO is growing beyond just the university campus. We're working to show the people of Ostrava that there are hundreds of amazing international students here, and it’s absolutely worth getting to know them.
